                                TROPICAL STORM ADVISORY #2

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  The County is prepared and ready for whatever impact Tropical Storm Erika may bring. 

At a news conference this afternoon, Mayor Tim Ryan said the Broward County Emergency Operations Center has been activated at an "enhanced operational level" and will remain activated during the weekend.

"Our first priority is the safety of Broward County residents and visitors. At this time, emergency personnel and public safety officials are tracking Erika and will coordinate resources as necessary," said Mayor Ryan. "Now is the time to ensure that your emergency plans are in place and that family members are aware of what they should do if the storm comes our way."

As Tropical Storm Erika continues on a track through the Caribbean, Broward County reminds residents to stay informed about the storm's progress. Some important reminders: 

  • Visit broward.org/hurricane for detailed information on how to stay "Ready. Set. Safe.´before, during and after the storm. Be sure to review the comprehensive A-Z Planning Guide at broward.org/Hurricane.

  • Bookmark Broward County's Home Damage Assessment Program on your smart phone - gis.broward.org/ReportHomeDamage, so that you are prepared for this or any future storm event to help first responders quickly identify areas of damage.
  • Call 911 only if you need assistance to save a life, stop a crime or report a fire.The non-emergency police and fire number is 954-763-HELP (4357).
  • The number for the Broward County Call Center is 311, or 954-831-4000. The Call Center becomes the emergency hotline in event of an activation of the Emergency Operations Center.

At this time, there is no plan to open shelters.
