BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Have you adopted a pet from Animal Care that is now at least 15-plus years old? If so, then it's time to celebrate!

As part of the Broward 100 festivities, Broward County Animal Care is seeking all pet "alumni" who were adopted from Animal Care in the year 2000 or earlier. These special senior pets would now be considered 100 years old in "human age."

Dogs and cats who are celebrated will receive a special Broward 100 gift and recognition by the County. The pet must have been originally adopted from Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division. Pet owners should have documentation of the adoption or be able to provide staff with the necessary adoption information so Animal Care records can be verified.

Pet parents with a special 100-plus-year-old dog or cat can e-mail their information to
animalcare@broward.org.  The e-mail should include the adopter's name, current address and phone number, and a picture of their pet. All information must be received by Wednesday, September 30th.

To further celebrate the County's centennial, Broward County Animal Care will waive all adoption fees on dogs and cats for residents who are interested in adopting a new best friend from Sunday, September 27th to Sunday, October 4th.

"Broward 100 is about 'Celebrating the Art of Community' so it's expected that you would include your pets in the festivities," says Thomas Adair, Assistant Director, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption. "Our four-legged friends are an integral part of our lives and, as such, we are thrilled to participate in this commemorative centennial event."

"We are very excited to be part of the Broward 100 celebration and to be able to recognize this special and unique group of senior pets which have found extraordinary pet parents who truly epitomize what a 'forever home" means," said Lisa Mendheim, Public Education Coordinator, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption.
