BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward Water Partnership (BWP), which includes Broward County and 18 utilities and cities throughout Broward, invites you to make a difference this World Toilet Day. On Thursday November 19, Broward residents are urged to help raise awareness and to keep the conservation going by taking action at home.

One of the world's greatest obstacles to public health and environmental sustainability is the lack of access to clean water and toilets. In fact, about 2.3 billion people worldwide lack access to a safe, clean toilet, which increases the risk of disease and malnutrition, especially for women and children. While safe, clean water isn't something most Americans need to be concerned about, protecting and conserving our water resources is very important, especially with the future impacts of climate change in mind.

Now is the perfect time to make improvements at home by replacing old toilets with new WaterSense® High Efficiency models (HETs). Each flush could save up to 77 percent of the water used in older models. Since toilets can account for 30 to 35 percent of household water use, that results in an impressive savings in both water and money.

If that isn't enough incentive, the
Broward Water Partnership will reward residents, businesses and nonprofits who get a new HET with a $100 rebate! Pre-approval is required. Join Broward businesses and residents who are already enjoying more than 300 million gallons in water savings with plumbing retrofits.

Last year, the Broward County Partnership awarded nearly $750,000 in rebates to residents and businesses that participated in the program.

In addition to toilet rebates, several communities provide free, water-efficient showerheads and low-flow aerators to qualifying homeowners and pre-rinse spray valves to qualifying business owners.

To find out if you
qualify for any of these programs, or to find other tips on how to save, visit the Conservation Pays website or call 1-800-270-9794.
