BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Protecting and enhancing the well-being and safety of residents and visitors is a number one priority in Broward County.

Each year, Broward County joins the National Association of Counties (NACo) in celebrating April as National County Government Month.  This year's theme is "Safe and Secure Counties" with a focus on strengthening the safety and security of all communities.

In order to remain healthy, vibrant, safe and economically competitive, Broward County provides a number of services including economic development, emergency management, court administration, human services, and the life-saving regional 9-1-1 emergency dispatch system.

It all starts with a solid economic foundation. Broward County maintains one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state and nation, due in part to economic development initiatives that bring quality jobs to our community and essential funding for programs that provide for a safe and secure County.

Every day, virtually every County agency contributes to a safe and secure Broward in a number of important ways:

·       Through the administration of Emergency Management Services, Broward County protects our residents by creating and managing systems designed to respond quickly and efficiently to possible public health threats such as adverse weather, environmental dangers, contagious disease or domestic and terrorist attacks.

·    The safety and security of our County is maintained and strengthened through environmental monitoring, licensing, code enforcement and oversight of quality public buildings, roads, bridges, traffic control, public works, waste management and critical infrastructure.

·       A number of County programs provide financial assistance to families and individuals in need of housing, transportation, childcare, mental health services, utility payments and employment training services.

·       Broward County builds partnerships with community stakeholders to tackle tough social safety issues such as decreasing the number of homeless to effectively targeting the synthetic drug trade through public education and collaboration.

·       Broward County operates a consolidated E-911 emergency dispatch system that coordinates response for life-threatening emergencies which is vital to saving the lives of residents and the estimated fifteen million people who visit annually.

"Broward County is committed to providing quality services to meet the needs of residents and visitors everyday. I encourage everyone to take advantage of National County Government Month to learn about the many county services and programs that are available to assist you and your loved ones," said Mayor Marty Kiar.

An educational exhibit showcasing how County agencies work to keep Broward safe and secure will be featured in the Broward County Governmental Center lobby throughout April. The Government Center is located at 115 S. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
