BROWARD COUNTY, FL - It's never too late to prepare for an emergency, especially for the upcoming hurricane season. To assist our residents with hurricane preparation, Broward County will conduct a Hurricane Preparedness Open House on Saturday, May 14th, from 10AM - 12:30PM at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. All Broward County residents are invited to attend this special community event.

"Residents are most vulnerable between June 1st and November 30th to the damage and devastation of hurricanes and other tropical disturbances. With so many things to think about when a storm threatens, it's critical to start getting your plan ready now," said Miguel Ascarrunz, Director of Broward County Emergency Management Division.

During the Open House, presentations are scheduled by the Emergency Management Division, Broward Sheriff's Office, American Red Cross-Broward County Chapter and other emergency preparedness experts. Featured presentation topics will include:

• How to prepare your family for a hurricane
• What to do before, during and after a storm
• Services available to those with special needs or who are at risk
• How to register for important emergency services
• How to receive emergency alerts

Families are encouraged to bring the kids and participate in the following fun activities:

• Tours of emergency vehicles and Mobile Command Units
• Giveaways including emergency preparedness supplies
• Free snacks and refreshments
