BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be performing the second phase of improvements along East Broward Boulevard between Federal Highway and Victoria Park Road in Fort Lauderdale. The overall project, which includes the drainage and sidewalk improvements along this corridor, was divided into two phases so the construction work could take place during the summer break to avoid impacting Virginia Schuman Young Elementary school operations. The drainage phase has been complete.

The second phase, which entails repairing existing sidewalks and upgrading curb ramps to current ADA Standards, will start on Monday, June 13, 2016 and will conclude on or before August 19, 2016 barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.

Driveway modifications will be necessary and residential/business access to some driveways may be affected for one or two days.

During construction, the following traffic impacts can be expected:

  • Westbound and eastbound traffic on East Broward Boulevard will be temporarily narrowed to one lane in each direction.
  • Northeast 12 Avenue will be temporarily closed.
  • On-street parking will be restricted while construction is underway.
  • Access to some driveways and sidewalks will be affected for one or two days.
  • Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to use the sidewalk across from the work zone.
The Broward County Public Works Department has made every effort to minimize resident inconvenience during this roadway improvement project, specifically:

  • Weekend work will be scheduled at some areas to reduce impact to businesses and to shorten the length of the project.
  • Construction in front of property will not be continuous because the project will be divided into several segments.
  • Variable message signs will be installed to warn affected motorists and pedestrians before and during construction.
Project Manager Adriana Toro can be reached at 954-357-6064 (office) or 954-826-9127 (cell). You also can call the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division office at 954-357-6040.

Broward County appreciates your patience as we complete this necessary road maintenance.
