WHAT: BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach is ready to launch its Summer Home Landscape Series 2016, an annual series of free lectures designed for homeowners who are interested in adding to the beauty of their homes through landscaping. The topic for the first lecture, from 7 to 8:30PM on Thursday, July 7th, will be "Growing Vegetables and Herbs," presented by Dylan Terry of Ready-to-Grow Gardens. The remaining lectures are all on Thursdays, also from 7 to 8:30PM, and are held in the nature center's air-conditioned Julia Hall.

 

Future dates and topics are as follows:

 

·        July 14th - "Fruit Trees" - David Harold and Karim Rossi, board members from the Rare Fruit & Vegetable Council of Broward County

·        July 21st - "Bromeliads in the Landscape" - Kathy Scott

·        July 28th - "Pollinator Gardening" - Bryan Tozzi, Alexander Landscaping and Plant Farm

·        August 4th - "From Sea to Glades: Aquatic, Wetland, and Edge Plants" - Joan Lorraine Guerra, Parks Naturalist at Secret Woods

·        Aug. 11th - "Environmental Enhancements" - Scott Bryan, Parks Naturalist at Secret Woods

 

Put what you've learned from the lectures to work in your own home landscaping by purchasing native and landscape plants from local nurseries at the nature center's Native Plant Sale, from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday, August 13th.
