FLL "Will Never Forget" Commemoration
  
- Honoring the Victims of September 11, 2001 -
  

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, the Broward County Aviation Department hosted the FLL “Will Never Forget” Commemoration. The ceremony began at 8:30 AM in Terminal 1 Lower Level at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

Speakers included Beam Furr, Broward County Mayor, Mark E. Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation, Dylan DeFrancisci, Port Director, Port Everglades/FLL, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Broward Sheriff's Office Captain Aimee Russo.

Special performers included the Police Pipe and Drum Corps of Florida (Bagpipe Troupe), the Broward Sheriff's Office Honor Guard and the Transportation Security Administration Honor Guard and Choir. Transportation Security Officer Janielle Gordon performed the National Anthem.

The permanent 9/11 Memorial in Terminal 1 includes these artifacts:

•    A fragment of the World Trade Center's South Tower
•    A helmet of a New York Fire Department firefighter who took part in the World Trade Center recovery effort
•    An American flag donated by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Michael F. Janzen, USAF. Following the attacks, he tucked the flag inside the cockpit of his F-15C before each mission to remind himself of his sacred duty to protect the borders of the U.S.
