Airport's New FLLibrary Takes Flight

- Free music and movies on the fly -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, the new Broward County FLLibrary, where travelers can access free music and movies “on the fly,” will make its official debut at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

A grand opening ceremony for the FLLibrary is scheduled for 3:30PM in the post-security walkway connector between Terminals 3 and 4.This innovative new space is being brought to FLL travelers through a partnership between the Broward County Aviation Department and Broward County Library (BCL).

The name “FLLibrary” is derived from the airport’s signature “FLL” call letters and the word “library.” The entertainment nook provides a comfortable space for airport passengers to rest, reenergize and recharge their digital devices while learning about and enjoying BCL's online services. Travelers can scan a QR code in the FLLibrary or visit http://FLLibrary.Broward.org for information on how to access free online music and movies.

This is the latest innovative partnership for FLL and BCL. In 2011, the airport was the first in the world to broadcast a QR code directing travelers to free online library materials. With Broward County FLLibrary, that simple QR code has evolved into a satellite library location featuring the latest in streaming media technology.

Speakers will include Mark E. Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation, Kelvin Watson, Broward County Library Director and other Broward County elected officials. The ribbon-cutting event will last approximately 30 minutes.

Media interested in covering the event must provide names and the date of birth of any crew planning to attend by Friday, June 7, 2019, at 4PM to the airport’s Public Information Officer, Greg Meyer. Attending media should park in the Palm Garage and meet over at the Terminal 3, Concourse F, TSA security checkpoint by 3PM on event day.  Please remind the crew to bring a valid government-issued ID to go through security
