Broward Out of Cone But Still Expecting Tropical Storm Force Winds

HURRICANE DORIAN UPDATE #7

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County is no longer in the cone for Hurricane Dorian, however according to the National Weather Service, there is a 60 percent chance of tropical storm force winds early Sunday morning, with potential for flooding. Even though conditions may be looking more favorable for Broward County, we must remain vigilant.

At the 11AM news conference, Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen urged residents to remain vigilant even though conditions may be looking more favorable. Broward County remains under a local state of emergency in response to the approach of Hurricane Dorian.

Latest Updates

  • The County’s shelters will be ready in the event an evacuation notice is given or if sheltering is needed. No such notice has been given at this time.
  • Now that you have topped off your vehicles with fuel, please conserve, as Port Everglades is expected to close for inbound vessels today, which could impact fuel availability.
  • The Airport and Port Everglades are operational today but passengers should call their airlines or cruise line for possible delays or cancellations.
  • County Traffic Engineering staff is prepared to canvass the County’s 1,400+ traffic signals after the storm to determine damages.
  • All County construction project sites have been secured.
  • The three County-owned and operated drawbridges are generator-ready. Crews will continue to check and clear roadway storm drains.
  • Debris removal equipment has been pre-staged at strategic locations to allow for quicker pickup of debris.
  • All Broward County bridges are under normal operation until further notice.
  • All libraries are closed this weekend and Labor Day.
  • All parks will close tomorrow, Sunday September 1st.
  • The Broward County landfill has extended hours of operation from 7AM to 7PM until further notice.
  • All school activities with Broward County Public Schools are cancelled this weekend.
