Two Water Parks Go to the Dogs in October

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – For patrons who need consoling when three of our four water parks close for the season at the end of September – only Paradise Cove at C.B. Smith Park remains open another month – take heart: Two water parks (Castaway Island at T.Y. Park and Splash Adventure at Quiet Waters Park) reopen almost immediately for the ever-popular dogs-only days the first three weekends of October.

First up is Barktobertfest at Quiet Waters (401 S Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach 33442; 954-357-5100), 9AM to 5PM on Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th. Activities include doggie splash time, rescue and nonprofit groups, adoptions, Doggie Market Place, kiddie bounce houses, face painting, and a costume contest. Some activities entail nominal fees, and there is a $6.50/dog fee for 50-minute sessions in the water ($5/dog for patrons who hold a seasonal pass to Woofing Waters Dog Park). The first session (8 to 8:50AM) is limited to dogs under 25 pounds.

Then, on Saturdays and Sundays, October 12th and 13th and 19th and 20th, K9 Splash Days return to T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park (3300 N Park Rd., Hollywood 33021; 954-357-8811). These events, with activities similar to those offered at Quiet Waters, also offer 50-minute sessions, for $5/dog, between the hours of 9AM and 5PM. All sessions will have a designated area restricted to dogs 25 pounds and under.

Some additional rules apply at both parks:

  • All dogs must be off leash when inside the playground.
  • Dogs must be sociable and well behaved.
  • Dogs must have proof of current rabies vaccination and a County license tag.
  • Water playground will be closed to humans and open only to dogs (and, of course, to lifeguards).
  • All dogs are limited to two sessions per day.
  • Sessions begin on the hour.

Also, along with the per-dog fees (which are subject to sales tax), the parks’ regular weekend gate fee ($1.50/person, ages 5 and under free) will be in effect.

For more information, call Quiet Waters at 954-357-5100 or T.Y. at 954-357-8811.
