New Park Program Celebrates Unique Ecosystem

- Learn about the Everglades at its namesake park -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – As the legendary conservationist Marjory Stoneman Douglas emphasized in the first line of her landmark 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass, “There are no other Everglades in the world.” A new monthly program at Everglades Holiday Park (21940 Griffin Rd., Fort Lauderdale 33332; 954-357-8868), Everglades Explorers, honors her passion for the unique ecosystem, starting with the first installment on Friday, October 11th, from 10 to 11AM.

Participants in the program, which is also scheduled for the same time on Fridays, November 8th and December 13th, will learn different scientific survey methods and see how scientists use this information to monitor the precarious Everglades habitat. They’ll survey the plants and animals and conduct scientific water-quality tests to monitor changes and draw conclusions about how these changes affect the ecosystem.

The program is for all ages and costs $5/person per installment. Preregistration is required by calling Markham Park at 954-357-8868. Drinking water, insect repellent, and sunscreen are recommended.

Recreation. Preservation. Education.
