12/20/2019 UPDATE- Following the lead of Governor Ron Desantis, County offices are now closed Christmas Eve Day, in addition to Christmas and New Year's Days. See additional highlighted changes for Broward County Libraries, Transit and Animal Care.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - In observance of the upcoming holidays, County governmental offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th, Christmas Day, December 25th and New Year's Day, January 1, 2020. Online payment and library services will still be available, buses will run on a limited schedule and most parks will be closed Christmas Day. Other exceptions are as follows:
- All branches of the Broward County Library, will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th and December 25th in observance of Christmas. Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library will close at 6PM on Tuesday, December 24th and remain closed on December 25th. All branches of the Broward County Library, including NSU, will close at 6PM Tuesday, December 31st and remain closed through Wednesday, January 1, 2020 Customers can visit the website or download the free mobile app, BCL WoW, to search the online catalog, place holds, renew selected materials and download eMedia.
- All Broward County regional and neighborhood parks, nature
centers, and natural areas will be open on Christmas Eve, from 8AM to 6PM
(except for Everglades Holiday Park, which is open 24/7 year round, Markham
Target Range, which will be open from 9AM to 4PM, and Holiday Fantasy of Lights
at Tradewinds Park will operate from 6 to 10PM). All neighborhood parks will be
open from 8AM to 6PM. The Marine Environmental Education Center at Carpenter
House will be closed. All campgrounds will be open to registered campers and
their guests. Special attractions such as AllGolf at C.B. Smith Park, Butterfly
World and Equine-Assisted Therapies at Tradewinds Park, and Ski Rixen USA at
Quiet Waters Park will be open on December 24th; call the attraction for hours.
All parks and attractions, including
the Marine Environmental Education Center at Carpenter House will be closed on Christmas Day,
except for Everglades Holiday Park and Ski Rixen USA at Quiet Waters. Holiday
Fantasy of Lights at Tradewinds Park will be open from 6PM – 10PM.
- Broward County Transit will operate Sunday/Holiday service on Christmas Day - Wednesday, December 25th, and will return to regular service on Thursday, December 26th. BCT administrative offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, however Customer Service Representatives will be available to take calls at 954-357-8400, (TTY 954-357-8302), Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 8:30AM - 4:45PM and 7AM - 7:45PM on Thursday, December 26th. The Broward Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale will have customer service staff available from 8:45AM – 4:45PM on Christmas Day, and 6AM - 8PM on Thursday, December 26th. The Northeast Transit Center in Pompano will have customer service staff available 8:45AM – 4:45PM on Christmas Day and closed on Thursday, December 26th. There will be no Express or Breeze bus service on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Bus trip planning information is also available 24/7 on our website.
- Broward County's Animal Care and Adoption Center will be open Christmas Eve but closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For emergencies only involving animal attacks or bites, injured animals and situations requesting police assistance, call 911. For non-emergency incidents, residents can call Animal Care beginning Thursday, December 26th and January 2nd, at 8:30AM at 954-359-1313. Residents who have found a litter of kittens can find helpful information here. For lost and found cats or dogs, call 954-359-1313, ext. 9273.
- The Aviation Department administrative offices at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be closed. Calls will be answered 24 hours a day for general airport related questions at 954-359-6100. All terminals and airport facilities will operate normally. The North Perry Airport administrative office will be closed. Calls will be answered 24 hours a day for general airport related questions at 954-336-2973. The Airport will operate normally. For additional information, visit the website.
- The Port Everglades Administration offices will be closed, but the building will be open during normal business hours for tenants. Port Operations' marine services will be provided at standard levels without interruption on a 24/7 basis.
- The Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services' administrative offices will be closed, but all family and professional services are available 24/7. Call 954-357-5200 for information and assistance.
- The Broward Addiction Recovery Center will be open for triage/detoxification services 24/7 everyday including Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Admissions will be available from 8:30AM - 5PM Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Call 954-357-4880 for additional information and assistance. Residential services will continue with no visitation. Administration and Outpatient offices will be closed.
- The Nancy J. Cotterman Center will operate and accept referrals for the Crisis and Child Protection Team units on a 24-hour emergency basis. Call 954-357-5778 for emergency intakes. For all other non-intake emergencies, call the 24-hour helpline at 954-761-7273 (954-761-RAPE) or TTY 954-765-4195.
- In the Broward Municipal Services District, there will be no garbage, bulk, or recycling collections on Christmas Day, December 25th. Collections will resume on Thursday, December 26th for residents who are regularly scheduled to have their garbage, bulk, or recycling picked up on that day. There will be no interruption of scheduled collections on New Year’s Day, January 1st. Residents of all other Broward municipalities should contact their city or hauler directly for scheduling information.
- The Broward County Landfill, located at 7101 SW 205th Ave, will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
