BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Residents and visitors preparing to enjoy the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend are urged to continue to observe COVID-19 precautionary measures in all activities. While this weekend is a great time to enjoy recreational activities, it is not the time to let down your guard.

Broward’s key indicators for COVID-19 are moving in a positive direction, but continued progress toward a Phase 2 reopening is reliant on these key behaviors:

• Avoid the “Three C’s” – Closed Spaces, Crowded Places and Close-Contact Settings

• Wear a facial covering when in public

• Maintain social distancing of at least six feet

• Report business violations online anytime to MyBroward.Broward.org or call 311 between the hours of 8AM to 10PM, seven days a week

Members of the public have reported more than 10,200 business violations since March 1, and code enforcement teams have issued over 1,737 warnings and citations.

Last week, Broward County reminded residents that violations of the facial covering requirement can result in a $100 fine for individuals and announced that enforcement of this requirement would be stepped up over the Labor Day weekend.

Broward’s beaches remain open, but there will be increased monitoring of businesses including food establishments, retail stores and entertainment venues, and heavily trafficked areas in the coastal cities, including beach areas, hotel lobbies and common areas, and tourist attractions.

To assist in our local economic recovery, residents are urged to patronize local businesses, but to do so responsibly. Visit BizComplaints.Broward.org to see which businesses have received citations and warnings for not complying with Emergency Orders. It’s easy to search the map or look up businesses by city name. Visit those who are in compliance, and report those who are not.

House parties at short term vacation rentals are hotbeds for asymptomatic spread of the virus and believed to be a key source of the continued presence of COVID-19 in our community. Please avoid these types of gatherings and encourage your family members to do the same.
