Park Rangers Work With BSO to Expand Their Skills

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – As part of Broward County Parks’ ongoing efforts to promote public safety, three Park Rangers recently participated in a weeklong Bicycle Patrol Training course through Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). The 40-hour course included more than a hundred miles of riding.

The Rangers joined a dozen other participants from BSO’s public safety agency to learn skills and maneuvers that will help them effectively navigate large crowds and events, as well as to safely ride with the flow of traffic and in formation. Along with learning how to maintain their balance while pedaling slowly, they were trained in how to ride up and down stairs and to pedal around narrow obstacles. They also learned the mechanics of their bikes and emergency repair measures.

Park Rangers routinely use their bicycles to access trails and remote areas of parks that may typically be inaccessible to larger vehicles. Bikes also allow them to navigate through crowded events and to interact more freely with the public.

Recreation. Preservation. Education.
