Portions of Northeast Broward County Under Boil Water Order

- Lightning strike hits Broward County's 2A water treatment plan -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  On Tuesday evening, Broward County Water & Wastewater Services experienced a direct lightning hit at its 2A water treatment plant in Pompano Beach. The entire area serviced by the plant (map attached) is under a boil water notice until further notice.

The lightning strike impacted the capabilities of the pumping station, which resulted in very little to low water pressure in all of Lighthouse Point, northern portions of Pompano Beach and parts of Deerfield Beach. If pressure continues to remain low, residents of Coconut Creek may also experience impacts later this evening. Customers in Coconut Creek south of Copans Road, however, are not affected.

Pressure has since been restored at the plant and will be restored in the entire system over the next few hours.

**PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ORDER IN EFFECT**

For residences and businesses within the cities of Lighthouse Point, Pompano Beach, Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach that are located within the area bounded by: Hillsboro Beach Boulevard to the north; NW 16th Street to the south; the Intracoastal Waterway to the east; and the Florida Turnpike to the west; as well as the area bounded by NW 77th Court to the north; NW 73rd Street to the south; Lyons Road to the east; and North State Road 7 to the west, boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

This “PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE” will remain in effect until the work is completed, and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is once again safe to drink.

Broward County apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Service department at (954) 831-3250 between the hours of 8:30 A.M and 4:45 P.M.
