Broward County Animal Care Recognizes World Spay Day

- Shelters educate residents about the importance of sterilization -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Today, February 23, marks the 26th anniversary of World Spay Day, an event which originated with the Doris Day Animal League in 1995 and became a program of the Humane Society of the United States when the organizations merged in 2006.

World Spay Day is recognized across the nation and internationally as a day to promote spaying and neutering, and to educate communities regarding the plight of homeless animals. Since its inception, many organizations and individuals have provided financial support, volunteered, and participated in activities to promote World Spay Day. Here in South Florida, Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties have united to further the mission of World Spay Day today and throughout the year

In observance of World Spay Day, Animal Care continues its limited time Community Cat Fix Program. In partnership with the Petco Foundation, the program offers FREE spay/neuter services for unowned community cats. Vouchers are distributed by veterinary program providers to Broward County residents who are community cat caregivers.

For resident pet owners, Animal Care offers the SNIP Program, a voucher-based program that provides free-to-low-cost sterilization services for owned dogs and cats. In addition to the spay/neuter surgery, pets also receive a rabies vaccination and Broward County Pet License tag.
