Take the First Step to Becoming a Florida Master Naturalist

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Youth Environmental Alliance (YEA) will join with Broward County Parks to present the Upland Systems Module in the University of Florida IFAS-Florida Master Naturalist Program. The 40-hour class, which meets both virtually and in person and includes field training, starts on Thursday, November 4th and ends on Tuesday, December 7th.

In-person sessions will take place in the Oak Ridge Hall at Tree Tops Park (3900 SW 100th Ave., Davie 33328; 954-357-5130) and at Sawgrass Nature Center (3000 Sportsplex Dr., Coral Springs 33065; 954-752-9453). Field-trip locations include three Broward County parks: Crystal Lake Sand Pine Scrub in Pompano Beach, Miramar Pineland in Miramar, and Helene Klein Pineland Preserve.

This is the first of three core modules required to receive certification as a Florida Master Naturalist, a designation recognized in school districts and governmental agencies statewide. Participants must be at least 18 years old. The instructors are Kristen Hoss, YEA's executive director; Dr. John Pipoly of Broward County Parks; and Robin Reccasina, executive director of Sawgrass Nature Center. All have between 30 and 45 years of teaching experience.
