Park Celebrates Landmark Anniversary

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Fifty years, five decades, half a century - however you want to measure it, T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park (3300 N Park Rd., Hollywood 33021; 954-357-8811) has been around a long, long time, providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds since it opened on December 9, 1971. To celebrate, the park will host a Street Fair in the Park, from 11AM to 3PM on Sunday, December 5th, and a Free Concert, featuring Spank the Band, from 4 to 7PM on Saturday, December 11th.

The two events are co-hosted by the Friends of T.Y. Park volunteer group to commemorate the 50 years during which T.Y. has provided such amenities as walking and biking trails, tennis and basketball courts, an RV campground, volleyball courts, a seasonal water park, rental facilities, and vast areas of open space. The street fair will showcase various organizations and community members of Hollywood and surrounding areas. There will be games, food trucks, entertainment, and presentations highlighting the park's history as well as its present and future.

For the concert, Spank the Band will return to the park to play rock, pop, and oldies favorites. The nine-piece ensemble will provide a fun outdoor experience where families can enjoy the music in a safe, socially distanced setting.

For more information, call T.Y. at 954-357-8811. The park's regular weekend gate fee ($1.50/person, ages 5 and under free) will be in effect for both these events.
