Fourteenth Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The 14th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, hosted by Broward County, in partnership with the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, a collaboration between Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties, local municipalities, and other stakeholders takes place Thursday, December 8, and Friday, December 9, from approximately 8AM until 5PM each day.

This year's theme, "Connect. Commit. Act." focuses on the collaboration, shared goals, and significant efforts needed to develop climate and energy solutions, adapt to climate impacts, and build broad-based resilience cross our communities. Approximately 700 elected officials, business leaders, local government staff, state and federal agency representatives, scientists, and nonprofit representatives will be in attendance.

The event is being held at the Broward County Convention Center (Grand Floridian Ballroom), 1950 Eisenhower Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Keynote addresses by:
    • Alice Hill, former Obama Administration national security official, current Council of Foreign Relations fellow, and author of The Fight for Climate After COVID-19.
    • Rafe Pomerance, long-time climate policy expert, former US climate diplomat, and subject of the New York Times Magazine article and book "Losing Earth."
  • The program also includes:
    • Exploration of climate, risk, and finance issues by a panel of global experts.
    • A panel discussing lessons from abroad, with representatives from Brazil, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
    • Discussion of climate adaptation projects at various scales.
    • A panel of experts exploring net-zero goals and strategies for reaching those targets.
    • Panels of Compact County mayors and top administrators.
    • Business leadership discussing the business case for regional economic resilience.
    • Representatives of five regional resilience collaboratives from Florida and California.
    • Exploration of climate and resilience issues featuring current and former legislators of both parties.
    • A panel focused on the linkages between the climate crisis and housing and community development.
