Local Entrepreneurs to Showcase Resilience Solutions at Climate Summit

- 14th Annual Climate Summit is December 8-9 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Two local entrepreneurs will have a unique opportunity to "pitch" their own innovative environmental resilience solutions to hundreds of attendees at the 14th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit. This year's Summit is being held on December 8-9 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale. It is a networking event that brings together leaders from business, government, higher education and nonprofits to share ideas and propose solutions to energy and climate change challenges.

  • Anastasia Mikhalochkina is the founder of Lean Orb Co., a Florida-based compostable food packaging company on a mission to eliminate single-use plastic waste and offer safe, plant-based solutions.
  • Juan Manuel Posada is Vice President of Engineering at FENEX, a Fort Lauderdale-based specialty window company that has designed a unique window system to protect from flood water and debris impact.

Mikhalochkina and Posada took first and second place honors in a competitive Resilience-theme Pitch Night at the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation recently, which earned them the opportunity to present their innovations and make valuable connections with attendees at this week's Summit.

The Resilience Pitch Night was coordinated by Broward County's Resilient Environment Department in partnership with The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance Foundation's Prosperity Partnership initiative. It recognizes the valuable role innovative entrepreneurs and start-up companies can play in bringing creative solutions to the challenges of climate change.

Three other local businesses participated in the Pitch Night, including Dustin DuBois of Filthy Organics; Matt Sweetwood of Greener Process Systems and Pepsy Kettavong of Smart Seawall Technologies Inc.

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact is a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties established in 2009. The neighboring counties collaborate to advance resilience through regional action. The Summit is a signature annual event for the Compact. To learn more, visit Broward.org/Climate.
