Learn While You Lunch at Nature Lecture Series

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Anne Kolb Nature Center (751 Sheridan St., Hollywood) continues its popular Lunch-and-Learn Nature Series for Adults, with monthly lectures presented in the park's Mangrove Hall. The lectures are from noon to 2PM on Fridays, and lunch at noon is included. Preregistration is required a week in advance, and a $10-per-person donation is requested for each lecture, to benefit the park's volunteer group, the Friends of Anne Kolb, which makes programs like this possible. The remaining two lectures are as follows:

Feb. 17th - "The Past, Present, and Future of Mangroves and Their Roles in Florida's Ecosystems" - presented by Janelle Goeke, a post-doctoral associate at the Aquatic Ecology Lab at Florida International University. Mangroves are heavily influenced by climate, so how do they - and the benefits they provide to ecosystems - shift in the face of a changing climate? By examining past changes in mangrove communities as well as their present circumstances, we can predict how mangroves in Florida and elsewhere might change in coming years.

Mar. 17th - "Florida-Friendly Landscaping in Urban Environments" - presented by Lorna Bravo, director and urban horticulture agent with UF/IFAS Extension Broward County. Learn how to get started on the path to having your yard recognized as a Florida-Friendly Landscape. Bravo brings with her a diverse knowledge of landscape design and a commitment to informing the public about the connection between humans and their use of the natural environment.
