Animal Care Offers Free Pet Microchips in June

- Appointments are available online only -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Animal Care Division will provide free microchips at the Animal Care Pet Clinic, 2400 SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, 33312. Appointments are available online on June 7, 14, 20, 21 and 28 from 9AM to 2PM.

The free microchips are available to County residents and will help reunite lost pets with their owners. "With upcoming holidays like the Fourth of July, where many people may lose their pets, we want to get as many microchipped as possible," said Emily Wood, Director of Broward County Animal Care.

According to data, shelters nationwide saw an approximately 30 percent increase in lost pets from July 4 to July 6 due to confusion and noise-related anxiety. Additionally, Hurricane season starts June 1, and having pets microchipped can help reunite pets with their owners in case of a storm or any other natural disaster.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, that is inserted between the shoulder blades of a dog or cat. A shelter or veterinary office can scan it to locate the microchip number and get the animal home safely if they ever get lost. Microchips are also included in Animal Care's vaccine packages.
