BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Animal Care adopted out 154 pets during its participation in the Summer National "Empty the Shelters" event in July. 

As part of the campaign, Animal Care offered free adoptions from July 6 to July 31. "Empty the Shelters" is BISSELL Pet Foundation's largest initiative and continues to grow each year to provide critical relief to overcrowded shelters. BISSELL Pet Foundation provides grants for each adoption - $100 per dog and $50 per cat. Animal Care was awarded $4,600 for the community's adoptions. The grant money will go toward food, medical expenses and enrichment items for the pets in its care.

"We are thankful for another successful Empty the Shelters event," said Emily Wood, Broward County Animal Care Director. "The community provided homes to more than 150 pets. It's a win for the adopters, the pets and for our facility."

Nationwide, a total of 31,861 pets were adopted from 337 shelters in 44 states. 

"The people that chose to adopt during our Summer National Empty the Shelters'event literally saved lives as shelter pets are at risk," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "Shelters nationwide are in crisis with an overwhelming number of highly adoptable, homeless pets. Each adopter who chose consciously to adopt a pet is my hero and made a lifesaving difference."

Animal Care provides shelter for homeless pets and helps reunite owners with their lost dog or cat. It offers spay/neuter services for pets and community cats.
