Main Library is Hosting a Community Moon Observation Party on October 18th

- Activities, tours and telescopes for International Moon Observation Day

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -Broward County Library is throwing a free Community Moon Observation Party from 6 to 8PM on Wednesday, October 18 at Main Library, 100 S Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, 954-357-7444.

This free, all-ages event features snacks, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities, giveaways, exhibition tours, professional telescopes and more, offering fun for the whole family to mark International Moon Observation Day (October 21).

The Earth's Moon is the fifth-largest moon in the solar system - and Main Library owns a piece of it! An actual Moon sample, collected during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971, was graciously donated by the estate of astronaut Donn F. Eisele. Main Library's official piece of this planet can be viewed in its Moon Rock Exhibition area.

South Florida Amateur Astronomers (SFAA) will be on hand to give a closer look at the Moon through professional telescopes. The library's Creation Station team will introduce visitors to the Moon by exploring space in another dimension with a virtual reality experience.

The Community Moon Observation party is open to everyone and all activities and refreshments are free through the  sponsorship of the Broward Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Fort Lauderdale Libraries.

Registration is requested. For additional information, contact Sebastian Perez at sbperez@broward.org or 954-357-7443
