BROWARD
COUNTY, FL - The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), in
partnership with the Broward Cultural Division, is delighted to announce the
latest immersive art exhibition in Terminal 1 featuring artist-sisters Dana
Kleinman and Ruth Avra, known collaboratively as KX2.
The exhibit HYDRA is a thought-provoking installation that aims to shed light on the vital but often overlooked network of utility pipes that silently weave through our modern world. These pipes are the unsung heroes of modern infrastructure that ensure access to clean water, efficient storm drainage, and proper wastewater disposal. Just like veins in our bodies, they form a complex system that is essential for a healthy society.
The artists use salvaged water pipes, PVC counterparts, and metal components to create an assemblage portraying the dynamics of water flow and the challenges posed by environmental impacts.
"Through this exhibition, we hope to spark a collective awareness, inspire meaningful conversations about actions to safeguard our precious resources, and address the vulnerabilities in our infrastructure," said Kleinman and Avra.
The new post-security exhibition in Terminal 1, Concourse C (T1C), will be on display until July 15. Approximately 8,500 passengers travel through this concourse daily.
"Environmental sustainability is fundamental to FLL's mission and aligns with Broward County's Resilient Community goals," said Mark Gale, FLL CEO/Director of Aviation. "By providing a platform for local artists to spread their environmental awareness message through art, we further our commitment to these efforts."
The artist-sisters, whose contemporary sculptures combine metal and painting elements, established their partnership in 2007, and since then, they have showcased their work in renowned galleries and museums worldwide. One of their significant achievements was representing the United States at the 2008 Beijing Biennale at the National Art Museum of China. KX2's artwork is now a part of various private, corporate, and public art collections throughout North America.
The T1C gallery is a temporary space dedicated to immersive art experiences that are engaging and inviting for airport visitors. The exhibits, designed and installed by South Florida artists, rotate biannually at FLL. For information about the gallery, send an email to ArtFLL@broward.org.
