BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Two hundred families received gift cards for turkeys and groceries to make a complete Thanksgiving meal at a holiday giveaway held last Thursday at Broward County's African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) and sponsored by the Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center and RTR Law.

"We are honored to participate to partner with our Friends and RTR Law to provide an amazing Thanksgiving meal to members of our community who are in need this holiday season," says Broward County Library Director Kelvin Watson. "Today's public libraries are more than books and storytimes - they are community hubs that help fill gaps in society's safety net and offer much-needed services and resources to everyone in our community.

In addition to gift cards and groceries, participating families also received books for youth and adults, hand sanitizer, masks and t-shirts.

The 60,000-square-foot African American Research Library and Cultural Center, built in the heart of one of Broward’s historically black communities, is the third of its kind in the nation to house extensive collections related to African, African American and Caribbean heritages, cultures and histories. It houses more than 85,000 books, manuscripts, artifacts and documents and features permanent and traveling exhibits, a 300-seat state-of-the-art auditorium and a computer training lab.
