May is Jewish American Heritage Month at Broward County Libraries

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month at Broward County Libraries. Throughout May 2023, select library locations will pay tribute to Jewish Americans through live music, history, an author book discussion, films, trivia and an exhibit at the Bienes Museum. 

Featured Jewish American Heritage Month 2023 events include:

  • Feature Film Screening of a quirky, 2015 Israeli movie about three siblings who embark on a trip to uncover family secrets, in Hebrew with English subtitles
    May 6, 2-4:30PM, Main Library 
  • Jewish Music Concert with lyric soprano Ester Brewda and pianist Gregory Szeto, in a unique concert in Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino, along with songs written by famed Jewish American composers
    May 6, 2 to 3PM at Weston Branch
  • American Jewish History Presentation exploring aspects of American Jewish history and culture
  • May 15,  2 to 3PM, Online 
  • Jewish Heritage Trivia Madness for Adults tests your knowledge in three rounds, with three winners
    May 16, 6:30-7:35PM, at North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch. 
  • Author Visit with Mort Laitner, who will discuss his investigative memoir, A Hebraic Obsession, following the trail of his father's survival in a Nazi concentration camp.
    May 18, 1-2PM, Davie/Cooper City Branch 
  • The Jewish Contribution to America, a lecture by Dr. Sandra Lilienthal, faculty member of Hebrew University's Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning and adjunct professor at Gratz College
    May 18, 2-3PM, North Regional/Broward College Library
  • Holocaust Documentary, a one-hour film featuring the stories of Holocaust survivors in their own words
    May 26, 5-6PM, Tyrone Bryant Branch 
  • Treasures of the Jewish Diaspora, an upcoming exhibit featuring books from the Bienes Vault on Judaism and the Jewish people, Bienes Museum of the Modern Book at Main Library
