Broward County Library Chosen to Host Human Evolution Exhibition, Lectures

- Explore origins, meaning of humanity with exhibits, workshops and more -

BROWARD COUNTY Broward County Library (BCL) is hosting the traveling exhibition, Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human? from May 29 to August 1, 2024 at Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.

This exciting exhibition encourages a public conversation focusing on multiple perspectives of what it means to be human and fosters greater appreciation of the complexity of the science of human evolution. BCL was selected to host the exhibit through a national competition offered by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) and the American Library Association (ALA).

Through panels, interactive kiosks, hands-on displays and videos, Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human? invites viewers of all ages to discover the milestones in the evolutionary journey of becoming human.

In addition, scientists and other experts from the NMNH Human Origins Program will visit to host events for the community, including a science program, educator workshop, community conversations and more. The exhibition's free opening reception is from 6 to 8PM on June 7th in Main Library's Gallery Six. To find additional programs, visit the library's Events calendar and search under "Exploring Human Origins" within the date range.

"We are so excited that our library is one of just six public libraries in the country to be selected to host this unique and fascinating exhibit and accompanying programs," said Allison Grubbs, Director of Broward County Library.

The Exploring Human Origins program series runs alongside Adventure Begins at Your Library, BCL's free Summer Learning Program, offering enlightenment, enrichment and entertainment for all ages.

Exploring Human Origins: Promoting a National Conversation on Human Evolution is administered by ALA's Public Programs Office in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History's (NMNH) Human Origins Program. Additional generous support is provided by the Friends of the Fort Lauderdale Libraries and Broward Public Library Foundation.
