BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -  In a production that would rival the Emmys, high school students from across Broward County will convene at the Cinemark Paradise 24 on Sheridan Street, in Davie, on Thursday, April 24, for the first annual “Take 5 to Stay Alive, Don’t Text & Drive” Video Public Service Announcement (PSA) awards.

The event, which is scheduled to start at 9 a.m., will be hosted by Local 10 news anchor and longtime advocate of the no texting and driving message Kristi Krueger. High school students from across Broward County were asked to produce and submit their best interpretation of the message "Take 5 to Stay Alive, Don’t Text & Drive," in a 30-second PSA.

A total of 15 videos were submitted by students. All the videos were judged by a panel of experts in a variety of categories and the top three winners were selected.

The winners will receive gift cards and a variety of other prizes, all provided by local sponsors. They will also be presented with trophies to be displayed at their school. The teachers of the winning students will receive Replay XD cameras and the school will receive cash prizes to invest in new equipment.

The winning PSAs will be aired regularly during BECON’s programming.

The program is co-sponsored by the Broward County School Board, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and BECON TV.
