BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward Emergency Medical Services Council, through the Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services, and the Broward County School Board, hosted the 2nd Annual "Take 5 to Stay Alive - Don't Text and Drive" Student Video Contest. The contest was open to public, private and charter high school students in Broward and this year, 33 public service announcement videos were submitted representing 10 schools and 93 students. Students were recognized at a Red Carpet Awards Ceremony on March 19th at Cinema Paradiso with Master of Ceremonies Will Shriner.

And the winners are:

"We are extremely proud of all the students who participated in this year's event," said Joel Gordon, Chairperson, Broward Regional EMS Council Public Information and Legislation Committee "The quality of their submissions and the messages they put forward truly show their commitment to stop texting and driving in Broward County."

A panel of 21 contest partners and sponsors evaluated the submissions. The winning videos will be broadcast on tri-county BECON-TV and on Broward County Government's cable channel and online video channel Video Central. The students will also be recognized at upcoming School Board and Broward County Commission meetings.

"Take 5 to Stay Alive" is a public education campaign designed to bring awareness to a growing safety concern: the risks of distracted driving. The goal of the program is to increase public awareness of the dangers, costs, and consequences of distracted driving, specifically texting while driving. The campaign is widely supported by a community partnership of public safety professionals, major businesses, other injury prevention foundations, and private citizens.
