BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Broward Cultural Division is still seeking the assistance of Broward Cities and Community Re-Development Agencies (CRAs) in Broward County Commissioner Districts 7 & 9, in a Call to Cities in order to complete the selections for both artists and cities for the Broward 100 Mural Project for the County centennial celebration. Cities and CRAs are required to identify specific, prominent, outdoor locations for murals and potential partnerships with public and private entities. Broward artists will be selected for this mural project through a unique partnership among Broward Cultural Division, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Community Foundation of Broward, in celebration of Broward County’s centennial, Broward 100 - Celebrating the Art of Community. Broward cities located only in Districts 7 & 9 are invited to apply for this Call to Cities. The application deadline is Friday, June 6 at 6 p.m.

Broward 100 will commemorate the centennial with bold, innovative art and performance projects that attract visitors and bring Broward residents together using our arts, sports and recreation venues, natural attractions and incredible diversity to creatively bridge, bond and build their communities. The yearlong celebration will be framed by four distinct cornerstones of community engagement: VisualEYES, Inside Out Broward, Calendar 100 and a culminating event.

Broward 100 Mural Project is a component of VisualEYES; and its goal is to create murals that are located in all sectors of the community, that are a tribute to Broward County, and for the visual arts to be recognized as essential to a strong community.

A minimum of one mural project will be implemented in each of the nine (9) County Commission Districts. Broward Cultural Division will manage the artist selection process through a separate Call to Artists. Murals will be applied to walls owned by a city, a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) or a private entity that is willing to contract with the County and allow the artwork to remain in place for a minimum of five (5) years and provide general maintenance to the site. The city will be responsible for holding the necessary community dialogues with the artist about the mural and possible creative workshops for community artistic participation.

Criteria for Sites:
Preferred sites will be highly visible walls in excellent condition, north facing walls, walls that are outdoors and have some type of protection from the elements such as a soffit, breeze soleil or overhang. Sites without windows are preferred. Minimum wall size should be 200 square feet. Private residences are not eligible.

Please note criteria changes, in this New Version of the Call to Cities. Digital images are now required of the wall and surrounding site. Images should be recent.

Who should Submit: Each city or CRA may submit one (1) site for consideration.
View full version of the Call, including the project description, eligibility, and submittal requirements.

Cities are also encouraged to submit email applications to dlrobinson@broward.org.
