Parks Division Will Again Have Presence at Home Show

- Emphasis will be on sustainable, green living in South Florida -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – When the Home Design and Remodeling Show returns for its second visit this year, November 22nd-24th, Broward County Parks will be there, emphasizing the STEAM/Environmental Education Program and other programs throughout the County’s approximately 50 park sites. The event takes place at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center (1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Fort Lauderdale 33316; 954-765-5900).

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and environmental education are components of the Parks Division’s mission of “Recreation. Preservation. Education.” Seminars will be led all three days of the home show by expert presenters on the following topics:

  • Fri., Nov. 22nd, 5-6PM – “Stewarding Our Environment: Volunteers Improving Parks” – presented by Dr. John Pipoly, Coordinator, Parks STEAM/Environmental Education, Volunteers, & Grants
  • Sat., Nov. 23rd, 5:30-6PM “Decorate Your Home and Raise Organic Food on Your Patio or Balcony Through Container Gardening” – Dr. John Pipoly
  • Sun., Nov. 24th, 5-6PM “Native Plants With a Purpose for Your Slice of Paradise” – Parks Naturalist/Manager Molly Taylor of Secret Woods Nature Center

Our Family Fun Information Booth will be in the lobby all three days, with staff, volunteers, docents, and interns on hang to tell you all about our parks and their programming. They’ll be available to answer questions on green living, recreational and educational opportunities, and special programs for high school students completing community service hours. Hours are 4 to 9:30PM on Friday, noon to 9:30PM on Saturday, and noon to 7:30PM on Sunday.

From 1 to 2PM both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a “Kids’ Creative Critter Corner,” which invites ages 2 through 10 to learn about our plants and native and migratory wildlife that occur in our subtropical paradise, as well as to create a paper model of their favorite to take home.

One-day tickets for the Home Design and Remodeling Show are available online now or at the door the days of the event.
