Brouhaha Over Bruja

- Drive-through Halloween event at Tree Tops focuses on mythical demon -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – No, Halloween hasn’t been called off because of COVID-19. It’s just adapting to the times we live in. When Haunt Drive comes to Tree Tops Park (3900 SW 100th Ave., Davie; 954-357-5130) in October, you and your family can get scared out of your wits from the safety of your vehicle.

The mostly drive-through event – there are also a couple of walks along a haunted trail – will take place on select evenings: October 8-10, 16-18, 22-25, 26-31, and November 1st. Hours vary by activity, although each evening features a family-friendly hour at 6PM, followed by scarier nighttime activities that begin at 7PM and run as late as 10PM, 11PM, and even midnight, depending on whether you choose just the basic activity or opt for one or more add-ons.

The inspiration for the new event is Bruja, an ancient witch or sorceress who has supposedly been in captivity deep within Tree Tops for two centuries. Now she has escaped and will feed on those who wander too close to her lair, where her reanimated victims are immortal creatures that do her bidding. They are doomed to an endless quest to capture new flesh for their mistress. Haunt Drive’s six distinctive experiences incorporate Bruja and her grotesque minions.

  • “Bruja’s Realm” Family Haunted Drive – Just before dark, see our creatures come alive from the safety of daylight and limited interaction with guest cars. Each car will receive a free surprise gift to redeem at the Museum of Discovery and Science. Recommended for ages 6 to 12.
  • “Bruja’s Game” Drive & Bingo – This add-on to the Family Haunted Drive lets the entire family look for Bruja’s followers and witch hunters as they play an intense version of bingo along through the drive.
  • “Hunt for Bruja” Haunted Drive – From the safety of your own vehicle, you’ll be part of a contactless experience as you encounter Bruja’s mindless followers, ancient witch hunters, and horrid creatures from the darkness. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
  • “Bruja’s Destruction” Haunted Woods Walk + Story-Driven Challenge – In this add-on to the Haunted Drive, you’ll be a new apprentice witch hunter, tasked with destroying Bruja. First you’ll learn the secret to her ruin, then step from the safety of your car and go deep into the woods, on a COVID-safe, dark-woods, open-air walk. For ages 18 and up or younger with adult supervision. Closed-toe shoes required. Limited availability.
  • “Bruja Lives” Haunted Woods Walk – This walk is available as a stand-alone activity, without the interactivity of the Story-Driven Challenge. For ages 18 and up or younger with adult supervision. Closed-toe shoes required. Limited availability.
  • “Extreme to the Max” Intense & Interactive Creatures Upgrade – Warning: Your car WILL get messy as our actors slather its exterior with gore in this add-on activity to the Haunted Drive. All material is safe for car paint, and we’ll provide a wash station near the exit – if you want to use it. Or maybe you’ll want to drive home with a bit of blood on your hood. Includes a photo op next to your car.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to three South Florida organizations, including the Museum of Discovery & Science and Parkland Cares. The Parks Foundation of Broward County will receive some of the funds raised on opening night, Thursday, October 8th.

Tickets must be purchased in advance online only – no tickets will be available at the gate. For tickets and additional event information, visit HauntDrive.com.
