Celebrate Juneteenth with BAM! Be Alive Through Music Festival June 11th

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library offers an evening of free, live music, storytelling, dance and poetry performances to interactively celebrate Juneteenth with Black music enthusiasts, members of the LGBTQ community, and people of African descent from 7 to 9:30PM on Saturday, June 11th at the  African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), located at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282.

Host Quadeera Teart will preside over a night of light bites and non-stop entertainment as AARLCC combines the commemorative holidays of June to celebrate Juneteenth, Black Music Month, and LGBTQ Pride Month in one explosive event -- the Second Annual BAM! Be Alive through Music Festival. BAM! is a series of experiences that honors human and musical diversity and the historical intersections of race and gender identity.

Dance, listen and learn with live performances by Hued Songs (history & dance), Darius V. Daughtry (rhythm & spoken word); and featured avant-garde musician Lamar Harris aka DJ Nune, spinning vinyl LPs from the Eric Rawlins Record Collection, a part of the AARLCC Special Collection which contains over one million items, including rare books, artifacts, artwork, manuscripts and reference materials.

AARLCC sets the stage for this celebration with an invitation to a futuristic speakeasy juke joint, fueled by the musical archives of AARLCC's special collections, curated from the sounds of jazz, rhythm & blues, hip hop, Latino and gospel.

This event is free and preregistration is requested. Program sponsorship has been generously provided by the Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. For more information about these programs, please contact David Dones at DDONES@broward.org or 954-357-5950.
