BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The inaugural 2024 Africana Arts & Humanities Festival celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Broward County Library and creative ingenuity with "Rootedness: Celebrating 50 Years of Black Literature and Culture," events are scheduled March 21 - March 23 at multiple locations, African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), Destination Sistrunk, and Urban League of Broward County. 

As Broward County Libraries observes the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1974, AARLCC presents its first annual Africana Arts & Humanities Festival (formerly known as the South Florida Book Festival), offering music, author engagement and community conversation. With "Rootedness," AARLCC intends to celebrate the spirit of the 1970s by revisiting the work of Black creatives who emerged in this era.

All events are free and open to the public with registration, apart from the "Destination Roots" reception on Friday, March 22 which is a ticketed, adult-only event. Presale tickets are $30; day-of-event tickets are $40.

  • Thursday, March 21
    -Jazz at Lincoln Center's Songs of Hope and Change, a program of iconic music associated with Nina Simone, the Staple Singers and Cannonball Adderley. Destination Sistrunk, 1033 NW 6th St., Fort Lauderdale 33311, 7PM
