Road Safety Improvements in Downtown Fort Lauderdale

- Work to begin May 15 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be installing a traffic separator on SE 3rd Avenue between SE 2nd Street and Broward Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale (see attached map). The work will begin on Saturday, May 15, 2021 and will conclude in August 2021, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety by adding a concrete traffic separator with associated pavement markings to allow for a pedestrian refuge for safe crossing. To minimize construction impacts to nearby businesses and residents, most of the work will be performed during the weekends.

During construction, one of the two lanes in each direction of SE 3rd Avenue will be closed to traffic, and access to driveways and sidewalks will remain open. Each weekend, work will start Saturday morning at 8AM and will end before Monday at 6AM. Some work may be performed on weekdays during off-peak traffic hours. Variable message signs will be posted to warn affected motorists and pedestrians.

Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division can be reached 954-357-6040 or Project Manager, Andrew Hipolito, can be reached at 954-357-6026 (office), 954-299-7752 (cell) or via email at ahipolito@broward.org.
