BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be conducting phase one of two for the NE 6th Avenue drainage improvements project. The project will comprise of upgrading the existing drainage system, installing ADA-accessible pedestrian ramps and resurfacing on NE 6th Avenue from NE 46th Court to Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park (see attached map). The work will begin on February 27, 2024, and is expected to be completed in June 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays. The project is funded by the Transportation Surtax.

During construction of the drainage improvements, the lane width for northbound single-lane traffic will be narrowed but remain open for vehicular use throughout construction. Access to adjacent property driveways will be temporarily restricted during the day; however, all residents will have access to their driveways in the morning and afternoon. Residents will also be allowed to park in the swale areas, and pedestrians will be directed to use the sidewalks across from the work zone. During the asphalt milling and resurfacing improvements, all traffic will be diverted except for local traffic.

HBMD staff along with the City of Oakland Park staff, have already conducted a Public Involvement meeting to notify the affected residents and will publish a public notice and continue to notify residents. Variable message signs will be strategically placed to effectively advise affected motorists and pedestrians of precautions.
