BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge
Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be performing major bridge rehabilitation in
the City of Coral Springs on Atlantic Boulevard between Riverside Drive and
Coral Ridge Drive (refer to attached map). This project is being funded by the
state gas tax.
The bridge rehabilitation will primarily
address structural issues identified in the most recent Florida Department of Transportation
bridge inspection report. Work will begin on
March 11 and is expected to conclude September 2024, barring any unforeseen
conditions and/or weather delays.
HBMD has developed an innovative design and
construction method which minimizes impacts to traffic and nearby businesses
and residents during construction. This new design, one of the first in
Florida, allows for most of the work to be performed on the bridge's underside
by using floating platforms in the water. Prior to this, all work needed to be performed
on top of the bridge, resulting in significant traffic impacts (watch
video).
Most of the construction will not result in any
lane closures, except occasionally for deck waterproofing and resurfacing. Driveways and sidewalks will remain accessible. Variable message signs will direct motorists.
