Intersection Improvement Project in Downtown Fort Lauderdale

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway Construction and Engineering Division will install a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal system at Southeast 3rd Avenue and Southeast 1st Street in Fort Lauderdale (see attached map). This state gas tax-funded project begins Tuesday, April 16 and will conclude in July 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays. Additional project improvements include:

  • Installation of a traffic control cabinet and pedestrian push button pedestals to the HAWK
  • Upgrades of existing pedestrian sidewalk and ramp to meet current ADA standards
  • Milling and resurfacing of the intersection asphalt pavement
  • Signing and pavement markings

During construction, contractor personnel and inspection staff will work closely with residents and businesses to minimize impacts caused by the project.
