BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The
Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be performing major bridge
rehabilitation on Riverside Drive between Atlantic Boulevard and Coral Ridge
Drive/Nob Hill Road in Coral Springs (see attached map). Work begins May 13, and is expected to conclude in
November 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays.
The rehabilitation project, funded by the State Gas Tax, will address structural issues identified in a recent Florida Department of Transportation bridge inspection
report. Much of the construction will not cause any lane closures except for a
short time to perform deck waterproofing and asphalt resurfacing. Driveways and sidewalks will remain accessible.
HBMD has developed an
innovative design and construction method which minimizes impacts to traffic,
nearby businesses, and residents during construction. This new design, one of
the first in Florida, minimizes long-term road closures and disruption to
traffic by allowing most of the work to be performed on the underside of the
bridge. Work is performed using floating platforms in the waterway instead of a
conventional design in which all work is performed on top of the bridge.
